This typical East Coast hill country farm belongs to the people of New Zealand.
It was the vision of the late Miss May McRae…
gifted nearly 40 years ago to all New Zealanders, to promote development, protection
and education of exotic and indigenous flora and fauna.
McRae Trust Board is the steward of this 600 hectare property. Located 8kms from Wairoa,
it is a working sheep and beef farm, of hill-country slopes with some flats,
committed to improvement of farming lands and sustainable methods.
The entire farm including three Queen Elizabeth II Covenants is protected for
future generations under a perpetual lease.
Soon celebrating our 40th year, the Trust plans to open the Waitahora Homestead and Park
and the historic Waitahora Pa Heritage site to the general public with a Community celebration.
We seek partnerships to create projects to benefit the community.
We also seek volunteers and funding to help realise educational and preservation goals.
